CALLISBURG — The Callisburg Wildcats defense shut down the Whitewright Tigers in the first half and the Cat offense had 373 yards of total offense in a 47-12 win Friday in Callisburg.

Callisburg’s defense only gave up three yards of total offense in the first half and didn’t allow Whitewright to get a first down until midway through the third quarter. The front seven dominated, led by Chase McCage, Chris Apala, Seth Wolfe, Langston Jones, Charles Smith, Aaron Beard and Brandon LaRue.

The Wildcats (3-0 overall) didn’t have any trouble scoring. In the first quarter, quarterback Bobby Dorman scored on a fourth-down run of 28 yards to make it 7-0 after his PAT kick.

In the second quarter, the Cats had an 11-play drive that ended with a Cory Harmon 3-yard TD run to make it 14-0. Five minutes later, Dorman scored on a 37-yard run that pushed the lead to 20-0. Late in the first half, Whitewright muffed a punt and Callisburg’s Wolfe recovered at the Tiger 14-yard line. Apala scored on a 2-yard plunge to make it 27-0 at halftime.

The Wildcats pushed their lead to 34-0 in the third period on a 2-yard run by Dorman. The drive featured a 23-yard run by Langston Jones and a 17-yard run by freshman Clay McKenzie.

Whitewright finally got on the scoreboard with 5:42 remaining in the third on an 11-yard pass from Steve Spann to Chris Bearden. That drive featured the initial first down of the night for the Tigers on a 60-yard keeper by Spann.

Callisburg answered two minutes later on a 13-yard TD pass from Dorman to Alan Eugster. That drive included a 17-yard reception by Kevin Bartley and a 34-yard run by Jones.

The Cats made it 47-6 in the fourth quarter as Harmon scored his second touchdown of the night. Sophomore quarterback Cole Wescoat saw his first action of the season under center and led a four-play scoring drive.

Whitewright got their final points with just 11 seconds remaining on a 14-yard pass from Spann to Bearden.
